Life can be stressful at times, especially as a college student. Finding easy and healthy ways to relax can be difficult but is essential for mental and physical health. Everyone is different and styles varies, but my top three ways to relax as a college student are poetry, exercise and cooking.
Reading poetry can be so relaxing because it gives you an opportunity to lose yourself into the poems. All your emotions can be felt into the page you're reading and it calms and loosnes the emotions being held in. Including how it helps to open your perspective in that, what you might be going through someone else has gone through the same thing and came out stronger on the other side. Giving a sense of calm and destress while going through stressful times.
Exercising is a common stress relief but it does wonders for your mental and physical health. Exercise releases endorphins which help to boost your mood and overall sense of comfort. It helps in making you happy and energized. Exercising doesn't have to be in the gym at all hours of the day. Instead it can be walking in the park, taking a swim or just a dance class. Whatever makes you happy to do it and you willingly choose do can help you feel a sense of calm in a hectic time.
Cooking whether it be for yourself, potential company or even in a cooking class can be relaxing. It can go good or super bad really quickly depending on the dish you try cook. Although cooking allows for creativity, because there is no one set way on how to do it. You can make your own rules and be in control or follow a recipe and let yourself be guided. Throughout the process you lose yourself in it and feel at calm. The best part is at the end you can eat delicious food.
